Our Story

Forging Tomorrow's Spaces with Timeless Design

Look, I'll be honest with you - I didn't start this firm because I wanted another cookie-cutter architecture studio. There's enough of those already, right?

Back in 2014, after spending years at bigger firms, I kept seeing the same thing over and over. Beautiful renders, sure, but buildings that didn't quite sit right with their surroundings. Spaces that looked great in magazines but didn't actually work for the people using 'em. And don't even get me started on the sustainability stuff that was just greenwashing.

So I figured, why not try something different? Started small - just me, a drafting table in my Queen West apartment, and way too much coffee. The name Mythral Enforge Quint came from this idea that we're not just designing buildings, we're forging them. Like a blacksmith, y'know? Taking raw materials, understanding their properties, and shaping something that'll last.

Toronto's been our testing ground, our inspiration, and honestly, our biggest teacher. This city's got character - old warehouses sitting next to glass towers, neighborhoods that shift every few blocks. It taught me that good architecture isn't about imposing your vision, it's about listening first.

What We Actually Believe In

No corporate jargon here. Just straight talk about how we approach our work.

Sustainability Isn't Optional

It's 2025, folks. If you're still designing buildings like climate change isn't happening, you're part of the problem. Every project we take on starts with one question: how can this building give back more than it takes? Sometimes that means passive solar design, sometimes it's about adaptive reuse of existing structures. Whatever works.

Context Matters

I've walked away from projects where clients wanted to plop some trendy design into a neighborhood without thinking about what's already there. Your building's gonna be standing next to someone's home, their business, their daily commute. That deserves respect and thoughtfulness.

People Over Portfolios

Yeah, we want our buildings to look good. But if a space doesn't work for the people using it every day, what's the point? We spend a lot of time in the beginning just asking questions, watching how people move, understanding routines. Boring? Maybe. Crucial? Absolutely.

Heritage Has Stories

Toronto's got incredible bones - buildings with history, craftsmanship you can't replicate today. When we work on heritage projects, we're not trying to freeze things in amber. We're having a conversation between past and present, finding ways to keep these structures alive and useful.

The Team

We've grown since those early days. Not huge - we like keeping things manageable - but we've got a solid crew now.

Seven of us total. Three architects who actually know their way around a construction site, not just Rhino and Revit. Two urban planners who get how cities actually function. An interior designer who's got this uncanny ability to make spaces feel right. And someone who somehow keeps all our admin stuff from falling apart.

We argue a lot, in the best way. Nobody's precious about their ideas here - if something's not working, someone's gonna call it out. That's how we get to better solutions.

How We Actually Work

No two projects are identical, but here's generally how things go down.

01
Listen First

We spend the first meetings just listening. What do you actually need? What's frustrating you about your current space? What's your neighborhood like? Sometimes clients don't even know what they need yet - that's fine, we'll figure it out together.

02
Research & Sketch

Site visits, zoning research, climate analysis, neighborhood context. We're not jumping to solutions yet. This phase is about understanding constraints and opportunities. Lots of rough sketches, site photos, diagrams.

03
Design Development

Now we're cooking. Multiple concepts, exploring different approaches. We'll show you options and talk through the pros and cons of each. This is collaborative - your feedback shapes where we go next.

04
Refinement

Details matter. Materials, systems, how light moves through spaces. We're working with engineers, contractors, consultants to make sure everything's actually buildable and within budget. Reality checks happen here.

05
Documentation

The not-so-glamorous part. Construction drawings, specifications, permits. But this is what makes sure the thing actually gets built right. We're thorough here because it saves headaches later.

06
Construction Support

We don't just hand off drawings and disappear. Site visits, answering contractor questions, dealing with the inevitable surprises that come up. We're in it till the end.
